The 'Homework Booklet' is in the first plastic pocket of your child's folder. Page 1 of the booklet is an overview of the month's work.. Page 2 details homework for week of September 16th. Page 3 details homework for the week of September 23rd.

Phonics:
Our focus is on the sound the letter makes, not the letter name. There is a jolly phonic song and hand action accompanying each sound and these can be found on YouTube. Just type in the letter plus jolly phonics into the YouTube search bar e.g. s jolly phonics. It is important that your child listens to the jolly phonics songs regularly. Please ensure the phonics cards are stored safely in the phonics wallet. Please write your child’s name on the back of every phonics card. Please only focus on sounds covered each week- do not go ahead with future homework at home. We will cover the following phonics in September:
s: as in sun/ snake/ sister etc.  N.B. shop/ ship/ shoe/ sheep etc. is a different sound so your child should not draw pictures of these as examples of the ‘s’ sound. a: as in ant/ attic/ alligator/ ambulance/ apple etc. N.B. ape/ alien/ apron/ angel/ acorn etc. is a different sound so your child should not draw pictures of these as examples of the ‘a’ sound. We will learn the long ‘a’ sound at a later date. t: as in tiger/ ten/ table/ teddy etc. i: as in insect/ igloo/ invitation/ ink etc. N.B.  ice cream/ ice/ i-pad/ iron etc. is a different sound so your child should not draw pictures of these as examples of the ‘i’ sound. We will learn the long ‘i’ sound at a later date. On Mondays and Wednesdays, your child will draw and colour 4 pictures of words that begin with the particular sound we are learning. It is very important that the adult completing this homework with your child clearly labels each picture your child draws.

Blending: Your child will learn to read many words by blending the sounds together. By the end of this month, your child should be able to blend and read the following words. Don’t worry if your child is finding this difficult at present. Plenty of practise will help build his / her confidence.:  at     sat     it     sit    sits

Sight/ Tricky / High Frequency Words: These words cannot be blended so your child will learn to recognise and read these words by sight only. Please ensure the sight word cards are stored safely in the words wallet. Please write your child’s name on the back of every word card. By the end of this month, your child should be able to instantly recognise the following words. Plenty of practise will help build his / her confidence. Please only focus on words covered each week- do not go ahead with future homework at home.  A      a    The     the

Reading: Our main focus is that the child uses his/ her index finger to point to each word/ picture. The purpose of this reading is to ensure your child instantly recognises the sight word we are focusing on and is making the link between words and text. Please only focus on reading covered- do not go ahead with work at home.

Maths: Please ensure your child can recognise and name the following colours: red/ yellow/ green /blue.
